Monster Storms of Long Island #1: Long Island Express 1938

There was no warning. The weather bureau in Washington D.C. thought the hurricane was moving offshore. The ocean entered the bay. The bay entered the creek. The creek headed straight into Westhampton Beach. 52 people died on Long Island. More than a hundred homes on Dune Road simply washed away.  Credit: Howard Schnapp
