MTA considers 5.5% fare increase to shrink projected deficit

The MTA is considering a 5.5 percent increase in fares, the highest increase in a decade. Among other changes, fewer cars on Long Island Rail Road trains, and reduced weekday LIRR service to shrink a projected annual deficit that could reach $3 billion.
